Shawnee Mountain is a great day trip destination. Many of our guests enjoy spending time here at the mountain to experience all we have to offer.
When you are visiting the ski area we want you to be prepared and have all the items you need while you’re here! These tips will ensure you are bundled up and have warm clothing for whichever activity you participate in.
Here are some of the items you should pack for maximum fun during your trip:
1. Ski Clothes
First things first, you want to make sure you bring warm ski clothes that will keep you dry on the slopes.
When looking for ski jackets, the number one thing you want to make sure of is that the jacket is waterproof and insulated. Having pockets is always a plus to keep certain items you want to have with you on the mountain, and pocket zippers are a great location to clip your lift ticket. This is the same when you are looking for the perfect ski pants. Then, underneath your ski jacket and pants, you want to make sure you have fleece or thermal layers to help keep you warm. When trying on the layers, try them on with your jacket to make sure that it all fits well and is comfortable but not constricting.
2. Snow Boots
If you are skiing or snowboarding, you don’t need to worry about footwear. Our rental department will fit you with the proper boots for your equipment. But if you’re snowtubing or taking your littles into the Mini Monster Mountain, snow boots are the way to go!
When selecting snow boots, it is important to prioritize finding a pair that fits your feet well and offers good traction. Take the time to try them on and ensure they properly fit your foot, as this will enhance your comfort and stability while navigating the snowy terrain.
3. Hats/mittens/socks
Cant forget about gloves! When picking gloves out you need to keep in mind how important they are as they offer protection, grip, safety, comfort, and dexterity. You’ll need to find some that keep your hands protected and warm without limiting your movement.
Keep in mind when finding a pair of socks to wear, you want them to be thick and high enough for your boots. Socks are very important for keeping your toes toasty inside your boots.
We highly recommend a helmet for skiing and riding, which would keep your head warm and safe, but if you’re tubing you should come prepared with a winter hat. Hats should have coverage for your ears, and make sure the little ones have appropriate headwear as well!
If you’re in need of any gear we’ve got you covered from head to foot. Stop in the Ski Shop located near the ticket windows and ask one of our friendly associates for help finding the right gear for you.
4. Equipment
If you have your own skiing or snowboarding equipment then you are set for your day ski trip. However, if you don’t have your own gear, there’s no need to worry. Our rental shop will help fit you for skis, boots and poles or a snowboard, bindings, and boots. Helmets are always available to rent and while not required, are highly recommended. Please note that we do not provide rental services for ski goggles, but they are available for purchase at our store or you can bring your own pair.
Along with clothing and gear, don’t forget the little things like lip balm, hand warmers, and sunglasses for those bluebird days! If you ever need any help planning your trip, reach out to us here on our Live Chat widget or via phone at 570-421-7231 and we’re happy to help you prep for the best day ever out on the slopes.
