5 Easy Ways to Get Ready for the Winter Season at Shawnee Mountain

The countdown has started and that means winter is almost here. Shawnee Mountain is gearing up for another unforgettable season on the slopes especially because it’s our 50th Anniversary! Whether you’re a seasoned rider or gearing up for your very first day, a little prep beforehand goes a long way and makes a huge difference. Here are five simple ways to get ready for winter so you can hit the slopes on opening day feeling confident, organized and excited.

1. Check Your Gear Before the Snow Falls

Don’t wait until the morning of your first trip down to the slopes to go through your closet or tune your equipment. Pull everything out NOW; your jacket, gloves, ski pants, googles, and most importantly your helmet. If your gear is looking a little beat up and needs a tune, our repair shop can help you out. They take care of it all whether you need wax, edges sharpened, base grind, etc.

2. Get Your Passes and Tickets Early

Saving time and money is a big deal. Lock in your season passes, 2 day pass, or lift ticket ahead of time. Shawnee offers multi day options and flexible ticketing that makes planning easier. Buying a ticket in advance online also helps you save money rather than getting your ticket at the window.

3. Refresh Your Skills

Feeling rusty after a long season off is a normal feeling. If you’re a new rider, consider booking a lesson for opening week or watching a few refresher videos to get your mind and form right. Even a small prep like stretching or doing some balance work can help you feel confident and smoother your first time back out on the slopes.

4. Dress for Success

Dress for success, and I’m not talking about a business meeting or an interview. I’m talking about layering up to stay comfortable all day while riding. Starting with a moister-wicking base layer, add an insulating mid layer to capture the heat and finish it off with a warm waterproof jacket. The weather can be very unpredictable so being prepared keeps your day full and smooth instead of freezing.

5. Follow Shawnee Updates

Snowmaking progress, opening day announcements, new events and much more. It all happens so fast once winter kicks into gear. Keep an eye out on our website, snow report and social channels so you’re always kept in the loop. You will be the first to know when the mountain is officially ready to shred.
